Instagram Profile Picture Viewer

Type an @username to see the profile picture uncropped and save it in HD

Tip: type @username to see and save all of an account's active stories
  • No login
  • No watermark
  • Original quality

Instagram shows profile pictures only as small circles and gives you nothing to tap or zoom. Type the username here and you get the picture as a square image at the largest size Instagram keeps, ready to save.

How to use it

  1. Type the username. Enter the account name above, for example @nasa.
  2. Open the profile card. The avatar is shown as a square image with the profile details.
  3. Save the picture. Tap Profile picture (HD) to download the JPG.

Only the username is needed

No link and no screenshot. Write the handle — nasa and @nasa are treated the same — and a card opens with the picture shown large and square, next to the name and bio of the account. One button under it, Profile picture (HD), stores the image as a JPG file.

Stories are irrelevant here: a profile that has not posted one in weeks still opens, so shops and brands that rarely use stories work just as well as daily posters.

Honest about resolution

Expect roughly 320×320 or 640×640 pixels. Instagram shrinks profile pictures on upload and does not keep a larger public copy, so this is the biggest version that exists. Sites that promise 1080×1080 DPs are enlarging a small image with software; the result is bigger but not sharper.

For a contact photo, a slide or a profile card, 640 px is plenty.

Typical reasons people look up a DP

  • Checking that an account is really the person or brand it claims to be.
  • Getting a clean, uncropped copy of your own profile picture after losing the original.
  • Recognising a face that is too small to make out in the circle.

Why the circle looks worse than the file

Instagram draws avatars at about 150 pixels or less in the app and on the web, then masks them into a circle. The square file you download here shows the corners that the circle hides, and at 320 or 640 pixels it is several times larger than what the app renders.

If a profile picture looks blurry even here, the account owner uploaded a small or heavily compressed image. The file is exactly what Instagram stores, without filters or sharpening applied.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work for any account?

It works for public accounts. Private accounts are not supported.

What size is the downloaded picture?

Usually 320×320 or 640×640 pixels — the largest copy Instagram keeps. Nothing is upscaled.

Can I see someone’s old profile pictures?

No. Instagram replaces the file when the picture is changed; previous versions are not available publicly.

Does the user know I viewed their DP?

No. Looking up a picture here is invisible to the account owner — there is no viewer list for profile pictures and nothing is sent.
